The Painter

What is Consciousness....well know one knows for sure, but I will attempt to explain in my words what I think it is. Consciousness is a field of possibilities not yet this or that.

Imagine a blank canvas. A canvas is a field that anything can be painted on. Consciousness is the blank canvas.

Everyone born into the world comes with their own canvas. At first our canvas is blank and very simple, but with time we paint this canvas with life experiences and what we learned from these experiences.  This canvas reflects now our story.

Then one beautiful day we hear about the possibility that we can change the canvas and we go to work painting over the canvas. We choose beautiful colors and things we want to experience in our life. First it looks good and we are happy with our new canvas, but as time goes by the old paint starts coming through so we touch up the canvas here and there.

After years of touching up, the layers are so think that the paint eventually starts to chip and we are a mess for we believed that our canvas is our life until we ask: Is there a better way? That is when a door opens and we realize that we are not the canvas nor the paint but the one painting the canvas.

Being the painter of the canvas we have three option:
1) Remove ALL the old paint and start over painting a beautiful picture
2) Remove all the paint and stare at a blank canvas
3) Remove all the paint and let God paint your canvas

To remove ALL the paint you have to get rid of all your beliefs, concepts and ideas of who you are.
Get rid of the past and the future and live in the presence of now. This might take a little practice because we have made it a habit to feel sorry for ourselves and feed on the pity others give us. Stop it! You are settling for less. You are limiting yourself from creating beautiful things in your life such as happiness, wealth and health. By sticking to your story you continue to create.....your story and cut out all possibilities of creating or witnessing anything other then your story.

I have met spiritual people on a path to "enlightenment" being stuck in no where land. The removed all their beliefs but did not find their true Self, instead they found a void, an emptiness because they failed to take one more step: you have to turn your attention to the painter. They saw the canvas, removed the paint but did not become aware of the painter. As they confused the canvas with being their Self, when the paint was removed the Self was empty.... a void or nothingness. They did not experience the bliss of being, that so many mystics experience.

What mystics do is remove all the paint and let God paint their canvas and they are simply witnesses to Gods love and creation of perfection into detail. God paints our life in harmony, a harmony we know not of; a combination of love peace and joy infused in all we encounter. We could never paint God's picture for us, no matter how talented we are at painting. Every picture we paint is limited by our imagination and filtered through our judgments of good and bad.

The whole reason why we are here, the true cause behind all desires, the only real reason to do anything is to know the Self. Why is this so important you ask? Because it is the end to suffering, the end to duality, the beginning and alignment as Life and all that IS.
